The lush foliage of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit really comes to life during the “green season” between March and May, and the national parks are packed with game in the dry months between June and October. Whichever time of year you choose to visit, you can count on Chalema Tanzania Safaris to be there every step of the way to make your safari a success.
ITINERARY
UPON ARRIVES IN TANZANIA
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi town.Day 1 - Moshi/Arusha Town To Tarangire National Park :
After a short briefing in the morning, you will be taken to the Tarangire National Park. The park with its endless tree savannah including the impressive baobab trees and seasonal marshes, is also home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. In addition to elephants you are also likely to spot giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, gnus and other types of antelopes and gazelles. Upon arrival at the park, your guide will open the roof of the vehicle and the extensive wildlife viewing will begin. Lunch will be taken at a picnic spot and in the afternoon you will get to see more of this amazing and beautiful park.
Day 2 - Karatu Area – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast you travel through a Rift Valley landscape and into the cooler climate of the crater highlands. You have lunch on the way and make time to stop and gaze down into the giant Ngorongoro Crater from a viewing platform; you will be coming back to explore Ngorongoro properly later but first you have one of Africa’s greatest wildlife reserves before you: the Serengeti.
The Serengeti is an excellent year-round destination for wildlife but it is when the Wildebeest Migration arrives from about November to June that you can expect some of its most iconic imagery. Your full day here is spent out on the Serengeti, taking advantage of your game-rich location and expert guide to enjoy amazing game sightings and plenty to talk about around the campfire later.
Day 3 - Full Day Serengeti National Park
Following breakfast, you will spend the whole day on a game drive in the Serengeti National Park and have lunch at a picnic spot en-route. Depending upon the time of year, you might even have the chance to witness the great migration with hundred thousands of wildebeests, zebras and Thompson gazelles. During the small rainy season in October and November, you will typically see these herds moving from the Kenyan Masai Mara through the northwest of the Serengeti to the plains in the south. After the great rainy season in April, May and June, the herds slowly travel back through the western and north-western part of the Serengeti. With fluctuations in rainfall, this timetable can of course change, resulting in the animals migrating during different times and routes. Your guide will try his outmost to find the animals and will make sure that you can see them from the best spot in the national park. Naturally, the migration also attracts predators and with luck you might see a kill in action.
Day 4 - Half-Day Game viewing Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater – Karatu
After a hearty breakfast and morning game drive in the Serengeti, we make our way to the infamous Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera. An abundance of wildlife graces this infamous area, known worldwide for its’ stunning landscape. Enjoy spotting a multitude of different species, from elephants, hippos and giraffes to the majestic Crater Lions and ravenous hyenas. After a short glimpse of the crater, we wind our way upwards as we head to our Logde on top of the crater rim.
Day 5 - Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we descend back into the crater for an early morning game drive, hoping the cool morning air allows for us to see some active wildlife. As the temperatures rise, we may head to the hippo pool to see these spectacular creatures enjoying a dip to beat the heat. As lunch approaches, we make our way to the picnic site on the lake, taking in the spectacular views and a bite to eat before you head out on the final game drive. After our last glimpse of the park, we head towards the crater rim for another overnight at our Lodge/campsite.
Day 6 - Lake Manyara National Park - Arusha/Moshi Town :
After your breakfast, head to Lake Manyara National Park for a morning game drive before lunch. With over 400 species of birds, including the flamingos famous for making this park their home, this is an ideal park for the bird aficionado. If we are lucky, we may be able to spot a lazy leopard lounging in a tree, waiting for his next meal, which is all but guaranteed with the variety of species living by the lake. After our final afternoon game drive, we head back to Arusha/Moshi or Airport.
